Weight Loss

OBESITY is a major health problem in the United States. It can occur at any age, but is increasingly affecting large numbers of teenagers. Our eating habits are terrible. Fast foods, eating on the run, and high carbohydrate intake, accompanied by lack of exercise, are the major causes of obesity. Obesity can be related to heart disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, gallbladder disease, gout, and breathing problems.

There are a lot of different diets on the market, and most work well if you stick to the diet. But once you’ve lost the weight, you still have to maintain. In fact, maintenance is the most important part.

Physician Longevity Institute offers the human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) diet and weight loss medication for those struggling with their weight.

The HCG diet is a rapid weight loss diet. It is restrictive, but you can lose 15 to 30 pounds per month. It isn’t a diet to be on for long periods of time, but it is safer than being obese all your life. Following the HCG (or any diet), you must go on a maintenance diet the rest of your life. The maintenance diet lets you socialize on the weekends and not be on a highly structured diet during the week.

Diet medication can also be used to help the hunger that goes along with dieting. At Physician Longevity Institute, we use a diet that is easy to follow, along with diet medication. It is designed for people that are obese but not severely obese. Diet medication can be used safely but is not designed for long periods. It isn’t used as a maintenance medication.

Diets using packaged foods (e.g. Ideal Protein) are effective and have a good maintenance program. This type of diet is designed for patients who like prepared foods.
